"It's a zero sum game, somebody wins, somebody loses. Money
itself isn't lost or made, it's simply transferred from one perception
to another." (from the film Wall Street).
After two years at Yale University, School of Art, Ulrik Heltoft
is back and shows Zero Sum Gain.
Conceptually any kind of relationship is touched on, where values
aren't created but only switch hands, and therefore, in consequence,
divide everything into profit and loss, winner and loser.
Everything material is part of this exploitation - from bricks
to bodies to sewing needles to relationships. Only mental production
is left out, if you disregard the fact, that mental production
requires a body which is materially addicted.
The exhibition displays three life-size photographs, a video and
a live-projection. The spectator can expect to be subtly exposed
to conscious misguidance, seduction and see the true order of
things turned upside down. In an almost meditative quietness one
can ascertain that:
- NOTHING IS WHAT IT SEEMS -
