Randi og Katrine: House in Your Head, 2009

Randi og Katrine - Gallery Factory, Seoul

● We are both deeply fascinated by houses. The house is the framework around life, but also a picture of the life, which takes place inside it." That's how Randi & Katrine describe their exhibition, which focuses on the dual role of the house as space and face. With the solo exhibition at Gallery Factory they aim to transform the entire two storey building, by literally giving Factory a new face. The house is a framework for life, but simultaneously it is a representation of this life, where all the little dramas and trivialities of everyday life take place. And then it’s also a space for memories, from where all dreams and ideas spring from and can be channelled into, which makes it a very rich metaphor. The mere fact that it has four walls and a couple of windows is enough to start the associations flooding in.

● We are fascinated by houses and spaces. When you stand in front of a house, a dialogue arises between you as an individual and subject, and then the house, which is both a façade and an image, but also a spatial entity capable of containing you. The house therefore represents a specific relationship between inside and outside, and we are very preoccupied with this. The relationship between inside and outside is a fundamental aspect of our production There is quite clearly a need to initiate individual contact also with architecture, with our surroundings. This is easier if we can recognize certain characteristics of our own bodies in the constructed bodies of the built enviroment. We can go well beyond the common phenomenon of corporeality to find countless analogies between buildings and human beings, thus demonstrating a first step towards an anthropomorphy of archictecture. These statements become clearer, if certain features in fascades are reminiscent of a pair of eyes, then achitectural physiognomy helps us to a dialouge: The building is looking at us in the direct sense of the word.

● We are inspired by the 'paranoid-critical method' develop by Dali, which is a deliberate over-interpretation of images in the world and It is this mixture of paranoia, humour and critical decision-making that we would like to pass on to the viewer of the exhihibition .We have set up tunnel vision: a distinctive, focused way of seeing the world. Suddenly we see faces everywhere. Every single gable and facade look back on us like a face. what started as an amusing idea has turned into an obsession. very little is needed in order to evoke the experience of a face. In reality only two holes in a plane are needed - then you have the beginning of a face.. They talk to us, they look at us even behind our backs. The exhibiton has two parts: the physically tranformation of Factory –which relate to the entire street scape and can be viewed 24 -7 and a small book with artists archive of houses with faces. 200 photographs of houses with faces collected and taken by the atists from around the world.By transforming Factorys façade, we stress, what was already there: a building looking back at you.

● Randi & Katrine belong among the most sensational young, Danish artists right now. Recently they have made their mark nationally and internationally with their installations and sculptures, which often show as small, scenic stories. The homely interior, the house, the home, the retreat, are recurrent thematic references in their work, by which they simultaneously widening and disturb the mechanisms by which we create orientation and meaning in our everyday lives. By means of objects, images and spaces that resist the reassuring, spontaneous categorisations of the outside world Randi & Katrine manage to develop the everyday fictions into the odd and surreal.
