Mikkel Olaf Eskildsen & Jasper Sebastian Stürup på Galerie Oel-Früh

The work of Jasper Sebastian Stürup appears fragmented and yet complete. With graceful fine lines, his work expresses explicit human figures often aligned with geometric structures. Depicting very few lines, Stürup’s renderings show a wide range of human expression, it couldn’t be done more minimal, and even without facial features, a personal manifestation is revealed in each figure. Among Jasper Sebastian Stürup’s drawings are examples of different kinds of abstraction mixed with recognizable figure - in the drawing “Reciting the alphabet” the figurative elements are composed with randomly floating color: red and purple watercolour are poured out over the fine motifs, resulting in a dramatic and dialectic effect.

Mikkel Olaf Eskildsen reveals fantastic scenery with highly detailed motifs in his work. He constructs his drawings with a fine and precise expression that is based on contrasting elements such as engineering and speed; ornamental forms, light and dark all make up this urban landscape. An example of this one finds in" the worlds avatar", a symmetrical composition of trains is racing through a ghost town, the sky is weighted with lots of ornaments, and heavy train smoke explodes within the scenery. Mikkel Olaf Eskildsen’s pictorial language has often been described as apocalyptic. With oversized objects, cones of light, and free floating objects the artist shows a world full of contrasts and emotional relations; it’s an abstract reflection to the real world in a narrative way.
